Whether you prefer hot or cold showers, there are benefits to both that you should know about.
I’ve read a lot of material on the subject, and have experimented with both.
Below are the benefits of both showers.
After the benefits, I will help you decide which option is best for you.
Hot Showers
Hot showers are a great way to relax and relieve tension.
When you apply hot water to your body, it helps heal and relieve stiff muscles.
You also open your pores allowing dirt under the skin to be washed away.
Hot showers also warm up your muscles and are great before a workout, especially if you exercise first thing in the morning.
Your body is cold and stiff when you wake up, and this is a great way to prevent an injury.
Hot showers also help in healing a cough or sore throat.
They loosen phlegm by helping to eliminate mucus in your throat and nose.
Ten minutes of hot water all over your body relaxes the mind and nerves.
This is great if you have trouble sleeping.
Hot showers are considered a natural sleep aid and sedative.
Cold Showers
Cold showers help increase your alertness.
The cold water shocks your skin and increases your overall oxygen intake.
A rush of blood goes through your entire body providing a natural dose of energy all day!
Cold showers close your pores and prevent dirt from getting into your skin.
This helps prevent acne and skin irritations.
Healthier and shinier hair occurs since less dirt gets into the pores of your scalp.
I personally feel amazing after a cold shower.
It’s like an instant energy booster!
It’s rare for me to skip a cold shower before workouts.
The cold water wakes me up and gets me going.
Cold showers also help lower your energy bill.
Hot showers use A LOT of energy.
Here’s a great calculator that shows you just how much energy your hot shower uses.
Do You Pick Hot or Cold Showers?
As you read above, both hot and cold showers have amazing benefits.
From relaxing and therapeutic effects, to increased energy and saving money.
Here’s what I recommend you do, stop thinking if you should take hot or cold showers.
You should combine both, the results are great!
My showers begin with about five minutes of hot water.
I let my pores open up and run soap all over my body with my exfoliating gloves.
Exfoliating Gloves are a must for your shower.
They help scrub away dead skin and dirt WAY better than the traditional soap to skin method.
I have never gone back to the traditional method ever since discovering these exfoliating gloves.
When I’m done scrubbing my body, I begin lowering the water’s temperature, little by little.
This method is comfortable and allows your body to adjust properly to the change in temperature.
Once my shower is ice cold, I’ll let water run all over me four to five minutes.
By doing this, I get the benefits of both types of showers.
I open my pores and cleanse away dirt, then close them to prevent dirt from getting in.
I warm up my body before a workout and also increase my energy and alertness.
My mind is relaxed before bed and I cut back on my energy bill.
No reason to have to choose between hot or cold showers, you need both!
Try it!

Most of the time I take really hot showers, and reading this article it makes sense why… I guess I’m choosing it almost unconsciously. I need more cold showers in my life. No reason why not to enjoy both.

Really hot showers do feel great, especially after a long day. As long as you mix both hot and cold, you’ll get the great benefits.
