5 Reasons Every Man Needs to Hit a Punching Bag
I’ve been a huge fan of boxing my whole life.
It wasn’t until I tried boxing myself that I developed real respect for it.
What a workout!
It’s funny because it doesn’t look anywhere near as exhausting as it is.
But I guarantee you’ll be surprised the moment you try it.
It comes with other benefits besides a great workout.
Here are 5 reason every man needs to hit a punching bag on the regular.
1) Cardio
It looks easy.
But you’ll be surprised how quickly you get tired.
Each punch you throw at a punching bag requires a lot of energy.
And if you’re new, you’ll be gasping for air within minutes.
This is one the best forms of cardio.
Follow the golden rule of throwing at least one punch every 2 seconds.
You’ll instantly develop respect for the bag with how tired you become.
Jogging and running will be a joke to you.
Spend 20 minutes hitting a bag and you’ll see what I mean.
2) Stress Reliever
I don’t care what kind of day you had or who pissed you off.
It all goes away when you punch the bag.
You can punch as hard as necessary.
And you can keep swinging until you feel better.
Some of my worst days have been saved by the bag.
I go into the gym, put on my headphones, and swing away.
It’s one of the best ways to channel your anger, stress, and disappointment.
Don’t sit in a room and cry.
Don’t call your girlfriend and complain.
Put on some gloves and hit the bag!
Proceed to find a solution to your problems if necessary once you’ve relaxed.
3) Stronger
Punching a bag requires you to hold your hands up.
Step foot in a boxing gym and you’ll hear the following repeated – “Keep your hands up!”
People drop their hands due to how tired they get.
Holding your hands up is exhausting.
Especially when wearing gloves.
They quickly get heavy.
This results in your arms and shoulders getting stronger and more tone.
You’ll notice how sore yours arms will be the next day.
4) Sweat
Sweating every day is important.
Here are a few benefits:
- Improves blood circulation
- Cleans pores which helps eliminate acne and blackheads
- Relieves stress and promotes relaxation.
Punching a bag requires a lot of energy and movement.
You’ll break a sweat in no time.
My shirt is drenched after a 20 minute session.
Again, throw a punch every 2 seconds for the best results.
You can’t expect to break a sweat if you throw one punch per minute.
5) Fun
Hitting a punching bag is a lot of fun.
You can throw different combinations, move around, and switch up the pace.
Unlike jogging or running where you repeat the same movement.
…Boring!
I’d take punching a bag over other forms of cardio any day.
For a more intense workout, I recommend you mix in jumping rope.
Most gyms have boxing bags.
But you can order one on Amazon to workout in the privacy of your home.
I recommend watching videos on YouTube and learn how to punch correctly.
Don’t just swing at the bag like a crazy person.
Learn the basics.
Then work on punching harder and faster.

Craig McCarthy says
Many people use punching bags to relieve the stress of their daily lives along with the unpleasant surprises that can bring on added stress that needs to be taken care of. Anyone who is familiar with what these bags do will easily understand how spending some quality time with one of them will relieve all sorts of stress. It is always better to punch an inanimate object rather than to hit a person or a wall. This may do a little to relieve stress but it may also cause injury to yourself as well as whatever it was you hit.
