I went 10 years without riding bike.
What a mistake.
As soon as I started biking again, I instantly grew love and respect for it.
It’s an excellent workout for anyone of any fitness level.
It’s also fun and helps relieve stress.
Below are my top 5 reasons why riding bike is great for fat loss and mental health.
1) Legs
Riding bike requires continuous pedaling.
Since your legs are the BIGGEST muscles in your body, you burn the most calories whenever you use them for exercise.
This is what makes riding bike one of the TOP fat burning exercises.
Sure, walking, jogging, and running also engage your legs.
However, riding bike is 10x more enjoyable.
This brings me to my next point.
2) Fun
Riding bike puts you in motion.
You move fast, you feel the wind on your face, and you’re much more engaged.
Unlike walking, jogging, or running, which can be incredibly BORING, riding bike is exciting.
Simply listen to a good mix of music or an audio-book on your phone, and get lost in your thoughts as you pedal.
Before you know it, you’ve biked an hour, burned a TON of calories, and feel great.
Beautiful.
3) Do it anywhere
You can ride bike at a park, trail, or around your neighborhood. (Be careful with cars)
As long as you own a bike, you can ride any day, at any time.
You can get a great bike for a good price on Amazon, Craigslist, or a local shop.
Trust me that the investment will be worth every penny.
4) Easy on your joints
Exercises like jogging or running put a ton of stress on your joints, riding bike doesn’t.
Besides being easier on your joints, it’s also a lot more comfortable.
Burning a ton of calories while sitting and doing nothing more than peddling is AWESOME!
Wouldn’t you agree?
5) Relaxing
The feeling of liberation and fresh air on your face as you pedal is pure bliss.
As you pedal, your heart rate and body temperature increase (burning calories), and your stress, anger, anxiety, sadness, or any other negative feeling you may be experiencing, begins to disappear.
There’s something magical about riding bike.
I no longer see it as a workout, but more as a fun time to relax and clear my head.
And, it’s definitely something I see myself doing for the rest of my life.
Get a bike.
Get fit.
Release stress.
You can thank me later.

It also burns way more calories because you can easily do it for much longer. I can go mountain biking for 6 hours, eat a big meal and I’m good to go the next day. If I ran for 6 hours, I’m useless the rest of the day, and part of the next.
I cycle to/from work, it’s 5km each way, and truly is uphill both ways. I get one heck of a workout twice a day.
