A Simple Trick to Get You to Take Action When You Don’t Feel Like It

January 18, 2016 By Alexander Writer 2 Comments

There will always come a time when you absolutely don’t feel like doing something.

You simply won’t want to do it.

And when it comes to achieving a goal or creating a new habit, you’ll need to do things you may not consider fun.

I remember when I started researching ways to make money online and had to do a LOT of reading, learning, and applying.

I read a ton of books and articles.

There were many times where the last thing I wanted to do was sit down in front of my computer and read.

But I did it anyways.

And here’s the simple trick I followed…

Brian Tracy mentions in his classic audio program (The Psychology of Achievement) that the trick to doing things you don’t feel like doing is:

Act as if you do feel like doing it.

He gives the example of reading a book on a subject you don’t like.

He goes on to say that if you make pretend the subject is interesting, you’ll see that after about 5 minutes, it’ll actually begin to feel that way!

Personally, I had doubts about this technique.

There was no way for me to believe that doing something I didn’t feel like doing would automatically become fun as long as I did it for 5 minutes and acted like I enjoyed it.

But I know the importance of trying new things no matter how pointless they may seem.

Interestingly enough, it worked.

Brian Tracy says this works because you have the ability to fool your brain into thinking you like something.

So when it was time for me to sit down and study how to make money online, I acted as if I was very eager to study and learn.

It’s weird and difficult to understand why it works…but it does.

Placebo effect?

Maybe.

Does it matter?

Nope.

All that matters is that you get yourself to do what’s necessary whether you want to or not.

So next time you absolutely don’t feel like doing something, give yourself five minutes and act as if you do.

You’ll see how after those five minutes go by, all of a sudden, it doesn’t feel too bad.

It’s kind of like going to workout when you really don’t feel like it.

A couple minutes into jogging and all of sudden you’re having a great workout.

Brian Tracy also mentioned that this is one of the top secrets of many successful people.

So what about you?

What don’t you feel like doing that you should be doing?

Go do it for five minutes and see what happens after.

Talk soon,

-Alex

Interesting technique I have doubts about it as you did but I will give it a shot nonetheless. Thanks for sharing Alex!
