I want you to do something for YOU, not for me.
From here on out, for the rest of your life, I want you to think of every thought you have, every action you take, and every decision you make; as a brick.
That’s right, a brick.
The same bricks used to build a wall.
And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING.
From every meal you eat, to every word that comes out your mouth.
Sounds a little difficult?
It isn’t.
For every brick you “create”, you’re building one of two walls.
One wall is success, the other is failure.
How big one or the other gets is up to you.
On the other side of the success wall you’ll find failure, unhappiness, and disappointment.
On the other side of the failure wall you’ll find success, achievement, and happiness.
Right now, both of your walls are small.
You can climb over each as much as you want.
You’re jumping back and forth like a kid in a bounce house after eating cake.
Things like instant gratification and laziness land you on the failure side.
Reading a book and taking a little action towards your goals lands you on the positive side.
As a result, you’re experiencing a little success and failure, simultaneously.
You want to build the success wall as high as possible starting right now!
You want to make it impossible to jump over to the failure side.
So how do you make one wall bigger than the other?
That’s up to you.
Let’s say you catch yourself saying a negative comment.
“I don’t think I can do this” = One negative brick
Replace it with 10 positive bricks to give your success wall a hell of a boost!
Repeat out loud – “I can do this”.
If you eat one bad meal, replace it with five good meals.
If you hear a sad song, listen to three positive songs right after.
Your goal is to make the positive wall as tall as possible.
What happens when you make the positive wall so tall that not even a plane can get you over to the other side?
You can’t reach failure.
What happens when you make the negative wall so tall that not even a plane can get you over to the other side?
You can’t reach success.
Are you following me?
Is this making sense to you?
Everything you do…
Every thought you have…
Every meal you eat…
Every person you help or hurt…
Creates a brick.
Once the brick is created, it’s rushing to its wall at the speed a shark rushes to its meal.
And once that brick is laid down, there’s no removing it.
Whichever wall you decide to build the most, will be where you end up.
Everything is mindset.
If you want success, you need to create positive bricks.
If you want failure, then just create negative bricks.
You’ll always have a negative thought, a bad meal, or make a mistake.
The point isn’t to become disappointed when you create a negative brick.
Instead, it’s to give your positive wall a huge boost so that the negative wall stays far behind.
Eventually you won’t have negative thoughts, you won’t crave bad food, and you’ll always make smart decisions.
Going out with friends instead of working on your goal, creates a negative brick.
Sleeping in instead of getting up an hour earlier to workout creates a negative brick.
Saying something bad about someone creates a negative brick.
As time goes by, one of the two walls will continue to grow.
It’s inevitable.
Whichever wall develops an altitude preventing you from crossing to the other side, will be up to you.

Dude, I think this article is one of your BEST. I LOVE this metaphor. It explains so simply and understandably how every thought or action we take has repercussions. Even if we can’t see them yet (the wall isn’t high enough) that brick has been laid and at some point in the future will make its presence known! You killed it with this one – and I really think your writing is going from strength to strength too!

Thanks a lot, Andrew. I had a feeling this article was going to be great the moment I started writing it. I honestly feel it’ll “condition” people to make better choices. “Will this create a negative or positive brick?”… That’s the question I want people to ask themselves before doing anything, after they have read this article.
I like what you said/added: “…in the future will make its presence known”. I’m glad you liked the article and thanks for sharing your thoughts!
