There appears to be an abundance of motivation today.
Audio recordings, videos, and books are available to help motivate you.
I believe motivation is good and essential for success, but it isn’t the best option.
You see…
Motivation only gets you started.
But once it runs out, you get tempted to quit or get distracted with something else.
Why does this happen?
Well because motivation doesn’t FORCE you to become successful.
It gets you excited to take action, but it doesn’t make it inevitable that you’ll achieve your goal.
Let me say it again…
It doesn’t make it inevitable you’ll reach your goal.
In order to guarantee your success, you need something more than motivation.
You need discipline.
You need a commitment to change.
I remember how I always wanted to get in great physical shape.
I would watch YouTube fitness videos with the inspirational songs in the background.
I would go to the market and buy all the healthy food.
I would allow myself a fun cheat day before starting my diet.
Then I would start my fitness plan and do great for a while.
….until motivation gave out.
Then I would find excuses to quit.
“I’ll start again next week”
“I can’t work out too much or I’ll get hurt.”
Your mind is AMAZING at coming up with excuses.
And excuses are the only thing I succeeded at over time.
Funny how do you don’t need ambition to make excuses
So what did I do?
Did I stop watching or reading inspirational/motivational material?
No.
Like I said, these things help.
But I added something to the equation.
I made a commitment.
I will work out for the next 30 days NO MATTER if I want to or not.
And guess what?
It worked!
Whether I felt motivated or not, I went to the gym.
Whether I was tired or not, I went to the gym.
After going that often, I began to look forward to it.
I felt great and my body began to look A LOT better.
Commitment is what gets results.
If you want true success in anything, you MUST make a commitment.
Depending on motivation or doing things ONLY when you feel like it will NOT get you anywhere.
You’ll make a little progress and then end up right where you started.
We are slaves of our habits.
We don’t like to change.
Change requires you to be uncomfortable.
Ironically, being uncomfortable for a little while leads to more comfort in the future.
But most people don’t want sacrifice a little instant gratification now.
Most people rather watch the latest TV show than hit the gym.
Most people rather go out and spend money than work on their side business.
Most people rather complain than take control of their lives and get results.
These people wonder why they never make any progress.
You want results?
Make a commitment.
I wasted A LOT of time starting something, quitting, and then starting again.
Motivation let me down.
Commitment didn’t allow me to quit.
Do whatever you need to do to make your success inevitable.
Sacrifice whatever necessary because your success is top priority.
Don’t punish yourself by settling for less than what you really want.
