Let me tell you a story about someone.
He’s known as The Annoying Success Warrior.
This person has decided to become successful no matter what it takes.
He’s discovered the price of success:
Sacrifice, hard work, commitment, and delay of gratification.
He’s made a promise to himself that nothing, and I mean NOTHING, will convince him to give up.
He contacts successful people who have what he wants and emails them constantly.
Some of them admire his determination and offer to help out.
Others get annoyed and ignore him.
Regardless of who helps and who doesn’t, he keeps going.
If he doesn’t get his answer from apartment # 1, he quickly knocks on apartment #2.
He’ll return to apartment #1 at another time.
His sense of urgency is so intense that people in his presence experience a rush of motivation, inspiration, and determination.
The Annoying Success Warrior is someone who doesn’t care.
He doesn’t care who he bothers, who begins to hate him, or who thinks bad about him.
His only concern is SUCCESS.
He’s not here to be liked.
He’s here to create something of value that will HELP people.
He’s decided the BEST way to live life is by helping others and getting paid for it.
In the process, he experiences some emotional turmoil.
He loses friends since he’s not as available to hang out anymore.
“It’s annoying how all we wants to talk about and focus on is his goals.”
His role models ignore his emails and invitations to hang out.
“I admire his determination, but he sure can be annoying with the constant emails and questions”
His girlfriend leaves him because he isn’t “as fun” anymore.
“It’s so annoying how he would rather work than spend time with me”.
Does it suck?
Yes.
Does it hurt?
Yes.
Does he care?
NO.
He’s on a mission that will bring FAR more happiness than his “girlfriend” would.
More happiness than going out and getting drunk with his “friends” would.
More happiness than being “liked” by others and being thought of as the “cool” guy would.
He’s so persistent, committed, and focus that he forgets his own birthday.
Nothing matters.
Then one day, he begins to experience success.
His blog begins growing in popularity.
Interestingly enough, a funny thing happens…
Now, people are beginning to email him and asking for advice.
Now he has MORE free time than his friends and can literally hangout whenever he wants.
While his friends are slaving away in an office job, he’s with his dogs at the beach.
While his friends vacation in ordinary places, he vacations where most people can only dream of.
Was all his sacrifice, persistence, annoying personality, and lack of “fun” worth it?
You don’t really need to me to answer that question, do you?
You can have anything you want if you’re willing to give up everything else temporarily.
The question is…
Will you let petty things stop you?
Are you going to listen to you friends when they tell you you’re being too obsessive with your goals?
That you’re being ridiculous?
Funny, last time I checked, a friend is supposed to support and motivate you.
Are you going to let your girlfriend threaten to leave if you don’t spend more time with her?
Funny, I thought a woman was supposed to support a man’s mission.
Are you going to let people you approach for advice and ignore you, keep you from taking action?
Funny, I thought the road to success is supposed to be difficult because it’s worth it.
Want to know what’s keeping you from the success you want and deserve?
The bullshit you’re convincing yourself to believe.
The bullshit you think you need and can’t live without.
Let me tell you something…
There are a lot of things I can live without.
But one thing I can’t live without is going after and achieving my goals.
I can’t live an ordinary life knowing that I didn’t try to make things happen.
Can you?
What are you going to do?
Are you going to live your life “settling” for less than you deserve?
Or are you going to say: “I’m on the road to success. Those who want to support me and be here to celebrate when I get there, can stay”.
To everyone else…
Good riddance.
If everyone likes you, you’re doing something wrong.

I admire your dedication, Alex. It’s gotten you this far and you’re definitely going to get way further.
As for your “friends” and “girlfriend”… all I can say that people are selfish by nature–that’s how we evolved; our survival instinct. They were thinking about themselves and they attention they no longer get from you. They were not thinking of what you needed, which was simply time to work on your mission. But people who truly care about you will give you that time and the support you need. I hope you have such people in your life now, and I’m sure more will appear.
Fantastic article!

Thank you, Tara. I agree that people are selfish by nature. I hope this article convinces people not to give up on their goals or dreams just because someone tells them to, directly or indirectly.

Really dig this article.
As an introvert I didn’t have to worry about friends forgetting me. Through the years I have a core group of friends that understand me perhaps sometimes more than I understand myself. They understand what I am doing and although they may be bummed by how I’m not always around they are excited for that day when I just have more than enough free time.
But you’re article made me stop and think how lucky I am to be surrounded by the people I am.

AD, I’m glad to hear the article had a positive impact on you. It’s great that you have friends in your life that understand you better than you understand yourself. They can provide motivation and support when you’re feeling down. Just like you said, you’re lucky to be surrounded by these kind of people. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Alex,
Fantastic article as usual. This is extremely motivating. I get a “take no shit and do what you want vibe” from this. That’s definitely a key component to your happiness.
I agree with your points about a supportive friend or partner in life. We are here to support one another, no matter what. Thanks for sharing that important aspect.
